We specialize in guitar lessons for beginners! However, our private guitar curriculum can cover a variety of topics: effective practice, open chords, barre chords, reading standard notation (Yes, we do read music), TAB, and charts, ear training, inversions, rhythm, lead, scales, modes and associated music theory.
Yes, there is a lot to do to be a guitar player, but I pride myself in operating at my student's pace. As your instructor, I will challenge you by assigning stretch pieces when you need it, but I won't assign work you won't be able to handle provided you some practice on your end. You will also learn a variety of cover songs and work on individual and ensemble music projects as well as have formal and informal performance opportunities presented throughout your time here. I look forward to playing with you soon!
I have been playing bass guitarfor over 30 years. I play bass guitar at several churches in the Fort Mill/Charlotte area (Maybe you have seen me?) and I currently play bass in the regional 80's tribute band Kids In America!
I enjoy working with beginner level students getting their reading together and also do a lot of work on the music theory end with more experienced/self-taught/non-reading players.
I have self published the Jam Exam Chord Theory for Bass and it is available for digital download at Amazon.com or you can inquire for a printed copy. Jim Hickey Author Page
We at Jim Hickey Music are HUGE FANS of the ukulele and are fully supportive of it's place in music education!
Jim was one of the original founders of the Greater Charlotte Ukulele Meetup group and also hosts clinics and workshops with touring ukulele artists a couple times a year.
Jim also has given workshops, played solo ukulele rock/pop shows and developed an adaptive class for students with special needs.
If you have never played a stringed instrument before this is a great place to start your journey. We are also a Kala Ukulele Dealer and carry a good variety of instruments in stock.
