We specialize in guitar lessons for beginners!  However, our private guitar curriculum can cover a variety of topics: effective practice, open chords, barre chords, reading standard notation (Yes, we do read music), TAB, and charts, ear training, inversions, rhythm, lead, scales, modes and associated music theory. 

Yes, there is a lot to do to be a guitar player, but we pride ourselves in operating at our student's pace.  

As your instructors, we will challenge you by assigning stretch pieces when you need it, but we won't assign work you won't be able to handle provided you some practice on your end.  

As far as application, you will also learn a variety of cover songs and work on individual and ensemble music projects as well as have formal and informal performance opportunities presented throughout your time here.

 I have been playing bass guitar for over 30 years. !

I enjoy working with beginner level students getting their reading together and also do a lot of work on the music theory end with more experienced/self-taught/non-reading players.

We at Jim Hickey Music are HUGE FANS of the ukulele and are fully supportive of its place in music education!   

Jim was one of the original founders of the Greater Charlotte Ukulele Meetup group and also hosts clinics and workshops with touring ukulele artists.  

Jim also has given workshops, played solo ukulele rock/pop shows and developed an adaptive class for students with special needs.
